ADHD Testing and Assessment for Children, Teens and Adults

Trouble focusing, staying organized, finishing tasks or sitting still can have many causes. A proper ADHD assessment finds out whether ADHD is the reason, or whether anxiety, depression, sleep problems or something else is involved, so treatment targets the real problem.

One Stop Psychiatry provides ADHD assessments for children, teens and adults at our Fort Lauderdale office at 3015 N Ocean Blvd, Suite C101, and by telehealth anywhere in Florida. We are accepting new patients, and same-day appointments are often available when we accept your insurance.

We accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), Cigna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, Optum, Tricare, Medicare and Medicaid, and offer sliding-scale cash rates. Call (754) 270-6322 and our team will check your coverage before your visit.

What an ADHD Assessment Includes

Your assessment is done by one of our psychiatrists or psychiatric nurse practitioners, and it may take more than one visit to complete.

At the end, your provider reviews the results and next steps with you.

Our ADHD Assessment Process

1. Clinical interview

Your provider asks about current symptoms, when they started, how they affect school, work, home and relationships, and your medical, family and mental health history. For children and teens, a parent or guardian takes part.

2. Standardized rating scales

We use evidence-based ADHD questionnaires completed by you and, when helpful, by a parent, partner or teacher. These compare symptoms against established criteria.

3. Ruling out look-alike conditions

Anxiety, depression, sleep problems, substance use and learning differences can look like ADHD. We screen for these so the diagnosis is accurate.

4. Results and treatment plan

Your provider explains the results in plain language. If ADHD is diagnosed, your plan may include medication, behavioral strategies, therapy and school or workplace accommodations. Learn more about our ADHD treatment.

Assessments are available in person at our Fort Lauderdale office or by secure telehealth video.

Signs It May Be Time for an ADHD Assessment

In children and teens

Frequent careless mistakes, trouble following instructions, losing things, difficulty waiting their turn, constant movement, or teachers raising concerns about attention or behavior.

In adults

Chronic lateness, missed deadlines, trouble starting or finishing tasks, restlessness, impulsive decisions, or feeling that you work much harder than others to stay organized.

Psychiatric symptoms related to autism

ADHD and autism spectrum disorder often occur together. We do not perform autism diagnostic assessments, but our providers treat psychiatric symptoms related to autism spectrum disorder, such as anxiety, irritability, sleep problems and attention difficulties, and help families with behavioral issues.
