Help for Psychiatric Symptoms Related to Autism
Many children, teens and adults on the autism spectrum also live with anxiety, irritability, mood changes, attention problems, sleep difficulties or challenging behaviors. These symptoms can affect school, work and family life, and they can be treated.
At One Stop Psychiatry, our psychiatric providers treat psychiatric symptoms related to autism spectrum disorder, including help with behavioral issues, at our Fort Lauderdale office at 3015 N Ocean Blvd, Suite C101, and by telehealth anywhere in Florida.
Please note: we do not provide autism diagnostic assessments or ABA (applied behavior analysis) therapy. If you need an autism diagnosis or ABA services, your pediatrician or a developmental specialist can refer you. We can care for the psychiatric symptoms alongside those services.
What We Treat
Treatment focuses on the symptoms that cause the most difficulty day to day.
Every plan is built with the patient and, for children and teens, with parents or caregivers.
Autism-Related Symptoms We Help With
Anxiety and worry
Excessive worry, fear of change, social anxiety and panic, which are common for people on the spectrum.
Irritability, aggression and behavioral issues
Meltdowns, aggression, self-injury and other behaviors that put the patient or family under strain. We help families understand triggers and build practical strategies, and consider medication when appropriate.
Attention and hyperactivity
ADHD often occurs with autism. We provide ADHD assessments and treatment for children, teens and adults.
Mood and depression
Low mood, withdrawal, loss of interest or mood swings, especially in teens and adults.
Sleep problems
Trouble falling or staying asleep, which can make daytime symptoms worse.
Visits are available in person at our Fort Lauderdale office or by secure telehealth video, which some patients find less stressful.
How Treatment Works
Psychiatric evaluation
Your provider reviews current symptoms, behaviors, history, medications and what has or hasn’t helped before. Bring any existing autism diagnosis reports if you have them.
Medication management
When medication can help with anxiety, irritability, attention, mood or sleep, your provider explains the options, starts carefully and monitors closely during follow-up visits.
Therapy and family support
Our licensed therapists offer therapy and family support to build coping skills and help parents and caregivers manage behavioral issues at home.
Working with your other providers
With your permission, we can share treatment information with your pediatrician, school or ABA provider so everyone is working toward the same goals.
Request an Appointment
Request an appointment online or call (754) 270-6322. We are accepting new patients of all ages, and same-day appointments are often available when we accept your insurance.
Insurance
We accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), Cigna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare, Optum, Tricare, Medicare and Medicaid, and offer sliding-scale cash rates. Our team checks your coverage before your first visit.
