Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners in Florida
Video visits anywhere in Florida
A psychiatric nurse practitioner, often written PMHNP, is an advanced practice nurse with graduate training in diagnosing and treating mental health conditions. At One Stop Psychiatry, our nurse practitioners do evaluations, prescribe and adjust medication, and follow you over time, in our Fort Lauderdale office or by secure video anywhere in Florida.

What a psychiatric nurse practitioner does
- Full psychiatric evaluations, including history, symptoms, current medications and goals
- Diagnosis of conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and PTSD
- Prescribing medication and adjusting doses at follow-up visits
- Ordering lab work when a medication needs monitoring
- Coordinating with your therapist, primary care doctor or our in-office therapist
In Florida, psychiatric nurse practitioners practice under a written protocol with a supervising physician. Our team also includes psychiatrist Dr. Andrew Rucker, DO and Dr. Murtaza Ali, DO, who practices addiction medicine.
Our nurse practitioners
All of our providers are board certified by their specialty boards. Visits are available in English, Spanish, Russian, Urdu, Hindi and Hebrew. See all providers.
Why patients choose a nurse practitioner
Some patients prefer a nurse practitioner because of availability or language, and others simply like the provider they were matched with. If your needs change, your care can move to our psychiatrist without starting over somewhere new.
Where you can be seen
Our only office is at 3015 N Ocean Blvd, Ste C101, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308. Patients in other cities, including Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties, are seen by telehealth. You need to be in Florida during the visit.
Insurance and cost
We accept Medicare, Florida Medicaid (including Sunshine Health and Carelon), Tricare, Aetna, Florida Blue, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Optum and Humana. Coverage depends on your plan, so our staff check your benefits before the first visit. If you do not have insurance, ask about sliding-scale self-pay rates. See insurance we accept.
Who You'll See
Your care is with our team of physicians, psychiatric nurse practitioners and a physician assistant. Visits are available in English, Spanish, Russian, Urdu, Hindi and Hebrew. Our staff can help you choose someone who's a good fit.

Can a psychiatric nurse practitioner prescribe medication in Florida?
Yes. Psychiatric nurse practitioners in Florida diagnose and treat mental health conditions and prescribe medication, including many controlled medications, under a written protocol with a supervising physician as state law requires.
Is seeing a nurse practitioner different from seeing a psychiatrist?
For most evaluations and medication management, the visit is very similar. Psychiatrists are physicians (MD or DO). Psychiatric nurse practitioners are advanced practice nurses with graduate training in psychiatry. Our team works together, and patients can be referred to our psychiatrist when that is the better fit.
Can I choose my provider?
Yes. Tell our staff if you would like to see a specific provider. We will match you based on availability, your needs, your insurance and your preferred language.
Do nurse practitioners see children and teens?
Our team sees children age 6 and older, teens and adults. A parent or guardian takes part in visits for patients under 18. Staff will match your child with a provider who sees that age group.
Do you offer video visits with nurse practitioners?
Yes. You can see our nurse practitioners by secure video anywhere in Florida, or in person at our Fort Lauderdale office.
