What happens during my first visit?
Your first session is mostly about listening. Your provider will ask about your symptoms, medical and mental health history, current medications, and what you’re hoping to get out of treatment. From there, they’ll talk through options- therapy, medication, or a combination and build a plan together with you. Most initial evaluations run 15-20 minutes.
How do I know if I need a psychiatrist or a therapist?

Can I get prescriptions online through One Stop Psychiatry?
Yes. Our licensed clinicians can prescribe psychiatric medications through secure telehealth consultations. Once they evaluate your medical needs, the healthcare practitioner will generate orders for medication for addiction recovery, for instance, all through an online consultation process.
Is my evaluation confidential?

Medication Management
What types of mental health professionals can prescribe medications?
Psychiatrists and psychiatric nurse practitioners are able to prescribe medication for things like anxiety, depression, and ADHD. Psychologists and therapists focus on talk therapy and generally don’t prescribe. At OneStopPsychiatry, our prescribing providers and therapists work together, so your care stays connected instead of split across different offices.
What is psychiatric medication management?
It’s more than just getting a prescription. It’s an ongoing process: your provider finds the right medication, keeps an eye on how you’re responding, adjusts the dose if needed, and checks in regularly to make sure it’s actually helping.
How long before medication starts working?
It depends on what you’re taking it for. Some medications, like certain ones for anxiety or ADHD, can start helping within a few days. Others, especially antidepressants, usually take four to six weeks to reach their full effect. Your provider will let you know what to expect and check in with you along the way.
